The students and well-wishers of the Academy of Martial Arts and IOGKF India held a celebration party, to facilitate Sensei Pervez B. Mistry on his being awarded a 9thDan by Sensei Tetsuji Nakamura (World Chief Instructor of IOGKF) with the unanimous decision & support of the IOGKF Executive Committee Members, and the Advisory panel, at the recently held Chief Instructors Gasshuku (Karate-do training camp) in Okinawa in July 2023. This high rank of 9th Dan was also awarded to Sensei Ernie Mollyneux, IOGKF Chief Instructor (UK).
The dinner party, evening of August 19, 2023, honoring the "Father of Karate-do in India" was hosted at the Royal Bombay Yacht Club and was attended by members of Sensei Mistry's, family, close friends and some of his oldest students – Sensei Burge Cooper, Sensei Shyam Kotak and Sensei Neville Mistry besides the entire IOGKF Hon Dojo, who contributed towards making the felicitation a grand success.
A special thanks to Sensei Mistry’s wife - Zeenat and student - Anurag as well as many of his past and present students for hosting this felicitation party. Many in attendance at the party have or had been training under Sensei Mistry for over 30 ~ 40 years along with a host of others who all came to celebrate and honour him.
Many spoke on Sensei Mistry’s contribution to spreading Karate-do in India as well as the huge impact he has had on his students over the 50+ years of teaching Karate. This was indeed the highlight of the felicitation in Sensei Mistry's honour.
This high rank of 9th Dan makes Sensei Mistry the first Indian to receive this award thanks to his dedication and his undying pursuit of teaching his craft for over 59 years across India. He continues to train daily and teach his students be they kids or adults, beginners, and women.
